My name is Jessica Schroeder and I am 27 years old.  My husband Jack and I and our two dogs live in the Beaverdale area in Des Moines.  I was born and raised in Des Moines and attended Roosevelt High School.  I received my BA in education with a  specialization in early childhood education from the University of Iowa.  Go Hawks!  I am currently attending Drake University for My Masters in Science - Effective Teaching and Learning.  I will graduate from Drake in May!

In our classroom....

The students and their learning come first in our classroom.  As your child's teacher, I will provide a classroom where all students are welcomed and feel safe.  I will treat every child with equal attention, care and respect.  I will work with the families of my students', my colleagues and the community to create a collaborative relationship with the students' interest at heart.  We will work hard in our classroom to create an environment where everyone feels free to hypothesize and experiment and where we will not feel discouraged when things turn out differently than expected, but inspired to discover why.

I will use my knowledge to facilitate  experiences that advance student learning, creativity and innovation.  In our classroom, students will be presented with challenging situations so that they can work their way through problems and develop their own knowledge.  I will model and develop a natural curiosity in students by providing opportunities that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities. I will assist and guide projects and inquiries as students become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress. I will design and adapt relevant learning experiences incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize learning.  I will extend students’ global awareness and cultural understanding by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures.

In our classroom, the process will often be valued over the product.  I will promote reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ understanding, thinking, planning and processes.  In our classroom, each and every student and their individual knowledge will be the guide of my instruction and their learning.

We will all take risks together.  We will explore and discover. We will honor each others' strengths.

All of these things are what is at the core of my belief.  Students and their learning are at the core of my heart.
