Reading Welcome to the Reading page of our class website! Often at the beginning of the year, parents come to me wondering if their child "is on the right track" academically to start Kindergarten. My answer, no matter who the child, is YES! At the beginning of the year, while we are taking time to get to know each other personally, I also take the time to get to know each student academically. After I have a good idea of what each student knows, I can frame my instruction around this information. Every student will be working at his or her own level and will be guided to push themselves to the next level! Follow the link for some basic ideas of things you can be doing at home to help guide your child in his or her reading skills and please let me know if you have any further questions! | The most important thing you can do with your child to promote success is take time to read with/to them every single day!!! Immerse yourselves in books! |
![]() | Here are some of the skills I will be checking to see if your child knows: * Recognizing upper case letters (not in ABC order) * Recognizing lower case letters (not in ABC order) * Recognizing letters and the sounds that they make * The ability to hear a word and say the first letter * The ability to hear a word and say the last letter * The ability to hear a word and break it into phonemes ("cat" = /c/ /a/ /t/) To work on these skills and more, check out some of these phonics activities! |
